A day in the life...

Since I spend the vast majority of my time in the lab, I figured it would be nice to show a little bit of what I do each day.

My current research project is focused on a pediatric cancer called neuroblastoma.  The survival rates of this type of cancer are really low and there aren't really any good treatment options for these kids (especially if the tumor has relapsed or metastasized).  In my internship, I'm trying to determine if certain genetic mutations make the cells more sensitive to certain drugs.  To do this, I grow cells in petri dishes and use them for my experiments.  Growing cancer cells is a lot like having a pet...or a kid.  They need to be fed and watered, and they never stop growing! In this video I introduce you to the basics of growing cells in a lab. Enjoy!
